New cycle connection U5: Feasibility study provides the first results to connect districts and optimize cycling into the city

New cycle connection U5: Feasibility study provides the first results to connect districts and optimize cycling into the city

The Raddly Rapid connection U5 is to lead along the subway line 5 through the districts of Lichtenberg and Marzahn-Hellersdorf. The aim is to completely connect some districts to the bike traffic network and at the same time create a safe way for cyclists in order to easily get into the city. The planning for this project has been running for several years and now there are first results from the feasibility study that has examined structural, traffic and approval law aspects.

The rapid rapid connection U5 will not only be an important addition to public transport, but also significantly strengthen bicycle traffic. By directly connecting the districts to the bicycle traffic network, commuters and recreational cyclists are encouraged to switch more to the bike. This not only contributes to relieving road traffic, but also to improve air quality and reducing noise loads.

The feasibility study has shown that certain structural measures will be required along the planned route to ensure the safety of cyclists. For example, bike paths have to be separated from the road to enable a safe journey. In addition, intersections and junctions are to be equipped with priority for cycling to enable safe crossings.

Traffic aspects were also taken into account in the study. It was analyzed how bicycle traffic will affect the existing transport infrastructure and what measures have to be taken to fix possible bottlenecks. Here, traffic counts and forecasts for the development of cycling were taken into account.

In addition, the approval aspects were also examined. Possible obstacles on the way to the implementation of the project were identified and paths were shown how they can be overcome. In particular, property matters and the involvement of the affected districts play a role here.

The results of the feasibility study are an important step towards the implementation of the rapid rattage U5. Based on the knowledge gained, further planning steps can now be initiated and financing options are checked.

The Raddly Radium U5 offers great potential for cycling in the districts of Lichtenberg and Marzahn-Hellersdorf. It will not only improve the mobility of the residents, but will also make a contribution to environmental and climate protection. It remains exciting to pursue how the project will continue to progress and when the U5 cycle fast connection can be put into operation.
