bike path on Ollenhauerstrasse is to be released

The Ollenhauerstrasse in Berlin-Reinickendorf is to receive a new bike strip that will soon be opened. The Berlin government originally stopped the bike path expansion in the city, but now there are new plans to release the bike path.

The mobility administration replied to a parliamentary request from the Greens and confirmed that the legal requirements for the release of the wheel strip are planned. However, no specific date was mentioned. White markings for the bike path have already been attached to the section of Ollenhauerstrasse, but the official approval is still pending. The district has temporarily glued yellow markings to make the wheel strip invalid for the time being.

A new development in the plans is that parking on the left of the wheel strip should be allowed in “low -traffic times”. This would temporarily eliminate a lane for cars, while cyclists would not be affected. The mobility administration also emphasizes that the wheel strip increases safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

The traffic senator Manja Schreiner (CDU) also plans to equip the entire Ollenhauerstrasse with separate bike paths. The planning for this has already been largely completed and the start of construction is planned for 2027.

The German Environmental Aid (DUH) filed a lawsuit at the administrative court for stopping the cycle path project in Reinickendorf. She describes the cycle path stop as illegal and now wants to complain about a similar case in Schöneberg. The DUH is fighting for stopping the anti-bike policy of the Berlin CDU SPD government.

In conclusion, it remains to be seen when the wheel strip is released on Ollenhauerstrasse and whether the planned measures are implemented to improve the cycling infrastructure.
