New parking zones in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg: Relief for residents and guests

parking space management areas expand in Kreuzberg

The parking space management in Berlin-Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg will be expanded by two new areas from October 1, 2024. The zones 63 "Graefekiez" and 67 "Oranienplatz" in Kreuzberg are thus integrated into the existing system.

The district councilor for traffic, street and green spaces, order and environment, Annika Gerold, emphasized the limited areas in the densely populated district. The introduction of parking space management is intended to relieve residents and offer guests incentives to use alternative means of transport such as public transport or bicycles.

Parking management means that in these zones you can only park with a parking ticket or a parking permit. The regulatory office will check the implementation through parking control checks.

Residents with a registration address within the new parking zones receive a corresponding parking permit, which releases them from the obligation to park. However, this ID does not guarantee a guaranteed parking lot. The application can be made online.

For commuters and visitors who have to park during the management period, there is the opportunity to acquire a parking ticket. This can be done digitally via smartphone apps (www.smartparking.de) or on the parking ticket machine with cash.

Companies and other companies within the zone can apply for an exemption for vehicles used in the company. Craft businesses have the option of receiving a special craftsman park. Severely disabled people with blue or orange parking cards may park free of charge within the zone and do not need a parking ticket. Exceptions are possible for working people with mobility restrictions.

All relevant information on the expansion of parking space management and a comprehensive FAQ can be found on the website www.parkeninkreuzberg.de.

For residents, business owners and interested parties, a digital information event will take place on Wednesday, July 10, at 5 p.m. Registration and other details are available at www.parkeninkreuzberg.de.
