Nieuw voertuigkenteken: versterkt dit onze nabijheid naar huis?
In a new initiative, Professor Ralf Bochert from the Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences has proposed to introduce individually designed car license plates for 320 medium-sized cities in Germany. These cities, which have over 20,000 inhabitants, are intended to receive their own letters to strengthen their local identity and improve city marketing. Bochert is convinced that this could help the municipalities to profile themselves through the license plates. The proposal could simply be implemented, since only one change in the vehicle registration regulation would be necessary. So far, drivers have only been allowed to choose from a selection of old license plates, which has been possible since liberalization in 2012.
De reacties op het project zijn gemengd. Many mayors, such as Erik Lierenfeld from Dormagen, support the idea and emphasize the importance of local identification by the license plates. Positieve signalen komen ook van het federale ministerie van Transport, dat bereid is de bezorgdheid te controleren. However, the president of the district council, Achim Brötel, expressed concerns. He described the proposal as superfluous and warns of a possible fragmentation of the license plate landscape, which does not bring real added value. It remains to be seen whether the application will actually be made, since the Conference of Transport Ministers has not yet discussed the topic .
