New bike road in Neukölln: Ilsestrasse will be rebuilt from August 2024

A new era for Ilsestrasse: bicycle road planned

Large changes are imminent on Ilsestrasse in the Neukölln district. From August 2024, a bicycle road will be set up between Emser Straße and Thomassstraße. This measure is part of the Körnerkiez traffic concept and is intended to improve the attractiveness and security for cyclists: inside this area.

The vision of the bicycle road

The redesign of Ilsestrasse comprises the labeling as a bicycle road and the establishment of opposite one -way streets that prevent through traffic for cars in the neighborhood. Cyclists: Inside, benefit from the fact that you can use the one -way streets in both directions. In order to increase traffic safety, bollards are installed at the intersections and crossing options for pedestrians: inside. In addition, charging zones for delivery traffic arise, while all houses remain accessible by car. Parking north of Schierker Straße are reduced to make room for cycling.

Jochen Biedermann, district councilor for urban development, environment and transport, emphasizes the importance of Ilsestrasse as a connection between North Neukölln and Britz for bicycle traffic. Due to the expansion to the bicycle road, not only use for cyclists: more attractive and safer on the inside, but also through traffic in the neighborhood. These changes are a direct reaction to the stress of excessive car traffic in Ilsestrasse.

Citizen participation and plans for the future

The Körnerkiez traffic concept was developed with the participation of many citizens: inside and presented on May 21, 2024. The Neukölln district office thus responded to a residents' application from the Neukölln district council (BVV). In the future, further measures such as modal filters will be planned to further improve traffic in the Körnerkiez.
