New bike road in Friedrichshain: Safe bicycle traffic from November!
In the heart of Friedrichshain, a new bicycle road will be built on Modersohnstraße and Gärtnerstrasse from November! The Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office announced that this north-south route should significantly improve security for cyclists. First, the Modersohnstraße between Revaler Straße and Simplonstraße is expanded, followed by a second section on Gärtnerstrasse between Simplonstrasse and Wühlischstraße. The construction work should take about four days per section and could be completed by mid -November - of course depending on the weather.
During the construction work there will be noticeable traffic restrictions! In order to minimize through traffic, opposing one -way streets are set up. Drivers can only drive the Modersohnstrasse south, while Gärtnerstrasse can only be traveled north. Cyclists, on the other hand, are allowed to drive in both directions. Annika Gerold, district councilor for traffic, emphasizes: "We create more security for cyclists and improve the quality of life in the neighborhood." This project is financially supported by the special program "City and Land" of the federal government. For further details, including the traffic sign plan, visit the project website.
