New email address for questions about the cannabis law in Berlin

New contact point for questions about the Cannabis Act

In Berlin, a new email address was set up by the health administration to give citizens the opportunity to ask questions about the cannabis law. Inquiries can now be sent to Konsumcannabisgesetz-Berlin@senwgp.berlin.de. In addition, a special topic page on the health administration website will soon bundle all important information on the topic.

On July 1, the second stage of the Cannabis Act came into force, three months after the release of cannabis for adults and private cultivation with certain requirements. This new regulation enables non-commercial "cultivation associations" with up to 500 members to grow cannabis together and to give them for their own consumption. The clubs must obtain approval and carry out regular controls. However, the start of this second stage in Berlin was delayed, since the structures for the registration of the clubs in the administration were not yet ready.

The beginning of the implementation of the Consumer Cannabis Act was more bumpy in Berlin. The health administration only announced shortly before the end that growing permits can be requested from the districts. However, the districts committed themselves because there was no clear regulation so far and the responsibility was unclear. The path and the necessary documents for the applications of the cannabis clubs have not yet been precisely regulated.

The Senate Health Management is intensively in exchange with all the Senate administrations and the districts involved in order to implement the Consumer Cannabis Act. A regulation of jurisdiction is currently being prepared and will soon be presented to the Senate. After the district mayors have commented, the regulation is presented to the House of Representatives. A precise schedule has not yet been communicated, but there is already a draft for a catalog of fines.
