These young men aged 16, 18 and 19, who had apparently traveled from Saxony-Anhalt to take part in a right-wing extremist demonstration, insulted the campaigners as "left ticks", tore the SPD caps off their heads and started with massive blows and kicked when the police tried to intervene. Two police officers were also injured, one of them had to be treated with a broken glass while the other suffered a medium -handed break. According to the Berlin public prosecutor, three of the four suspects are now in custody, and arrest warrants have been issued against them, as the taz reported.
solidarity and peaceful protest
BZ Martin Dreßler, a representative of the "Lichterfelde cosmopolitan" initiative, emphasized the importance that people should not be afraid of fights and violence.
While the SPD is still concerned about the well -being of its members and reflects the psychological and physical consequences of the attack, Berlin's Secretary of State Christian Hochgrebe warns of the long -term effects of such attacks on democracy and the upcoming election campaigns. Federal Minister Nancy Faeser also expressed a sharply about the incident and called for a hard punishment for the perpetrators. These violent attacks on election workers are not alone and illustrate the worrying increase in right -wing extremist violence in Berlin and beyond.
