Night of Politics: Citizens' Dialogue in the heart of Lichtenberg on June 13th!
On May 30, 2025, the Lichtenberg district office announced the upcoming “Night of Politics”, which will take place on Friday, June 13, 2025. This event, which lasts from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., is aimed at all interested citizens and is intended to offer a platform for exchange and information.
The “Night of Politics” offers the participants the opportunity to explore the town hall and to get into conversation directly with members of the district office and the district council (BVV). In addition to discussions, informative and entertaining offers are also planned to strengthen the interest in local politics.
opening and offers
The event is opened at 6:00 p.m. in front of the town hall, where district mayor Martin Schaefer (CDU) and Gregor Hoffmann (CDU) will speak a greeting. The opening is accompanied by a dance group of the Flatback & Cry e.V.
The offer of the "Night of Politics" includes open offices, advice, information stands and rounds of discussion. In addition, culinary treats and drinks are offered in the courtyard and in the parking lot. A central topic of the discussion will be “the world in transition: Europe, Germany and the municipalities in search of answers to global challenges”. The highlight of the evening will be the concert of the duo "Blackbird", which will appear on the stage at the parking lot at 8:00 p.m.
commitment in the municipality
In recent years, the topic of volunteering in Berlin, as on berlin.de , has further become more important. Over 1.1 million people are involved in the capital in more than 27,000 clubs and 1,000 foundations. These initiatives deal with a wide range of topics, including environmental protection, cultural projects and social integration.
An example of a successful cooperation between students and non-profit institutions is the participation of the Oskar volunteer agency in the Bachelor's degree Public and Non-Profit Management at the University of Economics and Law in Berlin. As part of a project, students determined the needs of organizations in Lichtenberg, which already led to various actions, including workshops for children and adolescents as well as the development of communication strategies.
The volunteer agency was also represented on the last night of politics in Lichtenberg on June 9, 2023, where students provided information about the possibilities of voluntary engagement. They offered visitors the opportunity to take part in a quiz via Lichtenberg and to capture their opinions about positive and negative aspects of their district. During the survey, both challenges such as garbage on sidewalks or a lack of teachers, as well as positive aspects, such as the diversity of the residents and the numerous green areas, were named.
The commitment and active participation of the citizens are essential for the further development of the city and its challenges. The close cooperation between various Senate administrations and the unit for commitment and democracy promotion supports civil society in its work and promotes the democratic participation in Berlin.
