After the numerous brawls and rioting in the Neukölln summer pool, the outdoor pool on the Columbiadamm opens its doors again from Monday. These have made headlines in the past few weeks and have severely affected the company's operation.
The employees of the Berlin bathing companies (BBB) were overwhelmed due to the aggressive bathers and had therefore reported sick. For this reason, it was no longer possible to maintain the operation. Mobile police guards are now being used to ensure the safety of the bathers.
From now on, visitors to the Columbiabad are only admitted only by presenting an ID, such as the ID card or student ID card. The Berlin bathrooms provide information on their website that the limited admission will take place from Monday to Friday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. However, the large slides and diving towers remain closed due to the current events. The CEO of BBB, Dr. Johannes Kleinsorg, commented on the incidents as follows: "Slides and diving towers make baths attractive to all guests. However, these are obviously these attractions that attract rioters again and again." With the temporary closure of the slides and jumping towers, the BBB hope that the situation will calm down again.
The Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner (CDU), emphasized the importance of security in the outdoor pool and announced that mobile police guards should be used to better protect visitors.
With these measures, one hopes that the situation in the Neukölln summer pool is normalized again and that all bathers can spend their time there safely and undisturbed.
