Mosaic bridge: Creative meeting project for diversity and peace in Berlin
creativity and community in focus
From September 8th to 28th, 2024, the old daycare center in Hasselwerderstraße 22a in Berlin becomes a place for creative exchange and cultural encounters. The international mosaic project "Mosaic-Bridge / Mosaik-Brücke" combines artists as well as citizens from Johannesburg, South Africa, and Berlin, to shape a 65 m² mosaic together. The central theme of the project is human rights, and it emphasizes the power of peaceful coexistence and the importance of diversity.
A call to participate
Everyone, regardless of their previous knowledge in the field of mosaic art, is invited to actively participate in the creation of the mosaic. No special skills are required, but only interest, openness and respect for the participants. The work phase takes place daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers the participants the opportunity to create a visible expression of diversity through their contributions to the whole.
a strong sign of peace and diversity
Inspired by Erich Kästner's words "Do not believe, you would have millions of enemies. Your single enemy is called - war," the mosaic project sees itself as an expression of hope of a harmonious coexistence. Every single mosaic stone, however small it may be, contributes to the overall composition, which symbolizes the basic principle of unity in diversity. At a time that is increasingly shaped by digitization and polarization, the project would like to create an analogous space for personal exchange and creative encounters.
support and partnerships
The implementation of the project is the result of an inspiring collaboration between the workshop for Mosaizistas mosaic art, the painter and action artist Liz Crossley and the artist collective of the WARGA Art Trust from Johannesburg. The Jazzkeller 69 e.V., Das Hauskolliv 22 and the youth ship "Remili" also work on the realization of this important initiative and thus promote intercultural dialogue in Berlin.
commitment of the community
The project receives support from various institutions, including the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion as well as the Treptow-Köpenick district office. The partnership for democracy Schöneweide and BVV Treptow-Köpenick are also active. Many local companies and volunteer citizens help to become reality.
an experience for everyone
In the context of the mosaic project, not only a work of art is created, but also a space for dialogue and mutual respect. Due to their participation, the participants can not only become part of a larger whole, but also exchange experiences and stories that enrich and strengthen the project.
