Event in Berlin: How do I explain racism to children?
The district mayor of Mitte, Stefanie Remlinger, invites you to an event entitled "How do I explain racism?" in the Schiller library and the district and family center for the future house of Wedding. The event will be part of the alliance together against racism Wedding & Moabit and will take place on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Schiller Library (Müllerstr. 149, 13353 Berlin).
Josephine Apraku, Africa scientist and expert for discrimination -critical educational work, your book of the same name will present and answer questions how to talk to children about racism, what effects racism can have on children and how to strengthen bipoc children when dealing with racism experiences. Parents and caregivers are invited to take part in an exchange.
During the reading there will be a special offer of children in the children's area of the Schiller library, with employees of the district and family center, which will provide a wide range of craft, reading and playing material.
The international weeks against racism are nationwide action weeks of solidarity with the opponents and victims of racism, which from 11.-24. March 2024 take place. Other events in the Berlin-Mitte city library include a film evening "The Hate U Give" on March 14th, a family afternoon on March 15th and another film evening "Mandela-The Long Way" on March 21st.
