Tucholskystraße becomes a bicycle road: District City Councilor invites you to rescue

The district councilor for order, environment, nature, streets and green spaces, Dr. Almut Neumann recently published a press release in which she informs you about the establishment of a bicycle road in Tucholskystrasse. The bicycle road extends from Torstraße to Oranienburger Straße and is intended to give the cyclists priority. In addition, new storage facilities for bicycles, e-scooters and motorcycles were installed in order to make the sidewalks more passable for pedestrians. In the future, Tucholskystrasse will only be accessible for residents with car, which should lead to less health -damaging exhaust gases, less noise, more traffic safety and a higher quality of life in the neighborhood.

In order to increase the safety of foot and cyclists, a diagonal filter at the Tucholskystrasse/Auguststrasse intersection was installed in order to prevent motor vehicle traffic. In addition, the right of ways were changed in order to attribute the vehicle traffic to the main streets of Oranienburger Straße and Torstraße. The intersections in Tucholskystrasse were previously one of the largest accident focuses in the side street network of the Mitte district, so the measures should also increase traffic safety.

District Councilor Dr. Almut Neumann emphasized that the new bicycle road means relief for the neighborhood and brings more security for all road users. It is also considered to check further traffic -calming measures on Auguststrasse and at Koppenplatz in order to counteract any alternative traffic.

The establishment of the bicycle road and the planned measures for traffic safety aim to make the neighborhood around Tucholskystrasse more attractive for residents and tourists and to improve the quality of life. The press office of the Mitte district office is available for further information.
