Spree excursion with a graduate biologist: animal life between Oberbaumbrücke and Unterbaumstrasse

According to this press release, an excursion under the title "Observations between Oberbaumbrücke and Unterbaumstraße" will be announced, which will take place on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The district councilor for order, environment, nature, streets and green areas, Dr. Almut Neumann, announces that the excursion is managed by graduate biologist Gunter Martin and that interested parties offers the opportunity to observe the lively animal life on and on the Spree. This is a unique opportunity, especially in winter, since the urban microclimate prevents a closed ice sheet on the Spree and attracts many feathered winter guests. The open water area is a preferred place for swans, geese, ducks, sawers and rallies, while cormorants dry their plumage in sunny places. Furthermore, the ducker piles can already wear their magnificent dress and gray herons lurk on prey in flat spots. The nests of the fog crows can be seen on the bare trees on the shore, and on the Spreeufer behind the East Side Gallery, an exit for strictly protected beavers was created in 2009.

The excursion will also take into account the city-historical aspect and illuminate the sights between the former customs borders Oberbaum and Unit Bridge, which impressively testify to Berlin's history. Participation in the excursion is free, but it should be noted that the excursion is not barrier -free. Interested people receive further information in the environmental and nature conservation office in Mitte and in the environmental shop.

For those interested, such excursions offer the opportunity to experience domestic fauna and flora in their natural habitat, and at the same time get to know historical and cultural aspects of the region. The excursion is therefore not only an experience for nature lovers, but also an opportunity to discover the diverse history and culture of the area. During the excursion, the participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and to expand their knowledge of the flora and fauna under the guidance of experts

It should be noted that such excursions also make a contribution to environmental protection by sharpening awareness of the natural environment and can contribute to the appreciation and maintenance of nature. It is of the greatest importance to protect and preserve the biodiversity and habitat of animals and plants in order to give future generations the opportunity to experience the beauty and variety of nature.
