Singerstraße is launched as a pedestrian zone: Citizens' participation for design ideas

The district councilor for order, environment, nature, streets and green spaces, Dr. Almut Neumann, announced that the school zone in Singerstrasse should be converted into a designed pedestrian zone this year. This measure aims to improve the public space in the Mitte district in Berlin and make it safer. Road design should not only be functional, but also perceived as an inviting, inspiring and versatile space. Pedestrians, including children, older people and people with mobility restrictions, should be able to use the zone in a variety of ways.

The residents are called to develop ideas for the design of the street space together with the street and green space office. The participation of the citizens is crucial for a successful redesign. The online division on Meinberlin.de will take place from February 5, 2024 to February 18, 2024.

The redesign of the school zone in Singerstrasse is an important step to improve the quality of life in the Mitte district. Citizen participation enables the residents to bring their needs and concerns to make the street space optimally. By creating new lounge and meeting options, the pedestrian zone becomes a busy and lively place in the city.

The initiative for the redesign of Singerstrasse ties in with the long -term tradition of citizen participation in Berlin. The city has a rich history of citizen participation and participatory planning, which goes back to the time of the citizens' movement in the 1970s.

It is expected that the redesign of Singerstrasse contributes to an increased attractiveness of the Mitte district and improves the quality of life for the residents. The pedestrian zone will help to enliven the public space and to increase the quality of stay.

Finally, the district office in Mitte invites all interested citizens to actively participate in the redesign of Singerstrasse and bring in their ideas and suggestions. Only through a common effort can the public space become a diverse and appealing place for everyone.
