New sports function building in Berlin-Mitte: A profit for the community
New sports functional building strengthens the community in Berlin-Mitte
The importance of sport and movement for the well -being of the population reached a new highlight on August 30, 2024. At the ceremonial inauguration of a new sports functional building, officials from the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Living opened the extension at the sports field at Holzmarktstraße 55, a central location in Berlin-Mitte.
The newly designed building was financed with the help of funding of around 2.8 million euros from the "Living Centers and Quarters" (LZQ) program and is part of a more comprehensive urban planning plan for Karl-Marx-Allee II. This program aims to improve the quality of life in urban areas, to expand the leisure opportunities and promote a new sense of community.
During the opening ceremony, Stephan Machulik, the State Secretary for Housing and Tenant Protection, emphasized the essential role, the sports facilities in the city: "Sport and exercise not only have fun, they are also important for our health and well -being. The new offers in Holzmarktstraße 55 are a step in the right direction to create an inclusive environment for all generations."
The expansion of the sports function not only ensures additional multi-purpose rooms for sports and gymnastics offers, but is also used by various extra-curricular organizations such as adult education centers, sports clubs and dance schools. This ensures that the facility is accessible to all age groups and thus combines different community layers. Benjamin Fritz, district councilor for school and sport, commented on the positive effects of the project on the district: "This extension is not only an enrichment for sporting activities, but will also be a central place for encounters and a platform for community events."
The repair of the Holzmarktstraße sports field has a long history and symbolizes the constant progress of urban development in Berlin. As part of the urban development program, a budget of around 16 million euros has been assured in this area since 2015. The sports field itself, which was built in the 1960s, is the largest sports facility in the area and plays a central role in school and club sports.
By creating such sports facilities, the community has new opportunities to counteract social isolation and promote an active living environment. The opening of the new sports function at Holzmarktstraße 55 is considered a significant step to improve the quality of life for all citizens in Berlin-Mitte.
With the new course program and social activities, the city administration will continue to work to establish the location as a lively, integrative space that brings together the community and promotes sporting commitment.
