New bicycle roads in Mitte: cycling now has priority
The district councilor for order, environment, nature, streets and green spaces, Christopher Schriner, has announced that two new bicycle roads were opened in the middle. The garden road between Invalidenstraße and Torstraße as well as Kleine Hamburger Straße between Torstraße and Linienstraße were redesigned to give priority to cycling. The measures include a redesign with extensive marking and signage work on the safety of cycling.
The bicycle streets were provided with pictograms and red markings to direct cycling and ensure safety. New bicycle brackets and storage facilities were installed to prevent wild parking on sidewalks and to improve safety for pedestrians. A cross lock has been set up to prevent non-local vehicle through traffic, with exceptions for emergency services and disposal and disposal service providers.
District City Councilor Christopher Schriner emphasized the importance of the new bicycle roads for the bicycle traffic network and the improvement of the quality of life in the neighborhoods. The bicycle roads help to reduce through traffic and to ensure traffic safety.
The official inauguration of the bicycle roads will take place on July 10, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. in Kleine Hamburger Straße corner Linienstraße. The initiative is part of a larger plan to expand the bicycle traffic network of Berlin and to increase the proportion of cycling in the city.
