Nightingal excursion in the large Tiergarten Berlin on May 5, 2024

The district councilor Benjamin Fritz informs that every second weekend in May is dedicated to the protection of the migratory birds and their habitats. The habitat of the migratory birds is reduced along their trouble due to human influences. Measures are required to protect the remaining habitats sustainably. Wind turbines, high -voltage lines, glass panes, light pollution, hunting and climate change are increasing the migratory birds, especially long -distance pullers such as the nightingale. Due to climate change, these must fly longer distances to their hibernation areas and suffer from a poorer food situation and area competition. worldwide there are around 10,000 species of birds, of which around 4,000 migratory bird species are. These include, for example, cranes, storks, geese, larks, swallows and the nightingale. The nightingale is known for its beneficial vocals and its variety of sound matters. In the large zoo in Berlin, nightingals have their areas, where other singing and water birds have also found a habitat. The graduate biologist Gunter Martin leads interested parties through the park and conveys biological peculiarities and the singing of the birds.

A tour with Gunter Martin will take place on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Brandenburg Gate, in front of the Silence. Participation is free, but the excursion is not barrier -free. Further information can be obtained in the environmental shop. The press office of the Mitte district office is available for media inquiries.
