Middle Memorial installation for Jewish old people's home: US artist awakens history to life

The cultural scene in Berlin-Mitte offers a variety of fascinating events and projects this autumn. District Mayor Stefanie Remlinger informs about a participatory installation that is dedicated to the memory of the Jewish old people's home Gerlachstrasse. The American artist and urban planner R. Stein Wexler will rebuild the walls of the former old people's home in order to remember the residents who were deported during the Nazi era. This project, supported by various organizations and the Senate Administration, aims to make the history of this place and its humans visible.

In addition, a city tour through the Badstrasse Kiez takes place to explore the traces of Jewish life in the region. Interested parties have the opportunity to take part in this free tour and to learn more about the history of Jewish families in Berlin.

Another highlight is the Black Berlin Biennale in the middle of the museum, which presents the documentary “Generation Repair”. The film illuminates the experiences of the descendants of the victims of the genocide in Namibia and asks about trauma, resilience and colonial past.
