Art in urban space: Ceremonial opening on September 12th in Mitte!

On September 5, 2025, the project "Art in the city room" (KISR) on Leipziger Strasse in the Mitte district celebrates its official degree. District Mayor Stefanie Remlinger emphasizes the importance of this program, which has been developed since March 2024 and now bears his fruits three years after the start. KISR has set itself the goal of addressing historical, social and architectural aspects of urban space and at the same time promoting public discourse on socially relevant topics.

Three artistic interventions were realized as part of the project. The artist Christof Zwiener created the "Gertraudenhain", who deals with sustainability and participation. Under the title "Diadéo Trésor", Kandis Friesen presented a fragment of the former Wertheim department store, while the group MSK7 addresses historical and current separations with the three -part installation "overturn". These work interrupt the urban river and invite the public to reflect on existing stories and relationships in urban space. [berlin.de]

In addition to the KISR initiative, the exhibition "Dislocations-On The Spot" will open in the middle of the art room in mid-September 12, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. This exhibition, which is open until November 23, 2025, addresses social changes in Berlin-Mitte since reunification. In addition to a performance by Raul Walch on November 1 and 2, 2025, an accompanying program is also offered. Participating artists include Nadja Abt, Orawan Arartak, Wisrah C. V. Da R. Celestino and Paula Hoffmann. [berlin.de]

Other cultural offers and initiatives

On September 12, 2025, the exhibition "Cemetery of the Nameless" will also be opened in the Wedding gallery, which deals with ecological, historical and social aspects and will be shown until February 1, 2026. The community Space "Emergent Archive", which will open on September 13, 2025, is also open to visitors and is accessible in the studio room of the Wedding Gallery until February 1, 2026. The entire project is part of the federal program "Sustainable inner cities and centers" and the promotion by the Senate Department for Culture. The public discourse on contemporary art in the context of socio -political issues is strengthened by these projects and offers citizens low -threshold access to art in public space.

In this sense, the Mitte Museum will be closed on September 11, 2025, while the Tiergarten town hall is open. A memorial place at Moabit's freight station is reminiscent of the deportations between 1942 and 1944, which serves the social reflection on the past and shapes the cultural discourse of the present.
