Fight against littering: ban on street trade in Berlin district
ban on mobile trade in historical areas and in the large zoo
Mobile trade in the historic center of Berlin and in the large zoo is now prohibited. This measure was hit by the district councilor for order, environment, nature, streets and green spaces, Christopher Schriner. It serves to protect the environment and traffic safety in these central areas.
The decision is based on the fact that public space is dirty by small and packaging waste, especially at major events. This not only leads to an impairment of the environment, but also to increased cleaning costs and time.
The demand for street trading in the historic center is still high, due to its central location and tourist attraction. Nevertheless, certain places had to be excluded from trading in order to maintain public order.
In 2007, the district office Mitte has already decided to prohibit mobile trade in certain areas. This applies, among other things, the historical center from the television tower to the S-Bahnhof Tiergarten and the large zoo.
Violations of the ban can be punished with fines of up to 10,000 euros. In green areas there is a risk of up to 5,000 euros.
It is important to respect these measures to ensure cleanliness and traffic safety in the historical areas of Berlin. The protection of the environment and the preservation of public order are the focus of these regulations.
