Big anniversary: renovation of the library at Luisenbad in Berlin!

On September 16, 2025 there will be significant news from the library at Luisenbad in Berlin Wedding. To mark its thirtieth anniversary, the floor of this listed facility is being renovated. District mayor of Mitte, Stefanie Remlinger, announced the partial renovation in collaboration with the Kiezverein e.V. as part of the Badstrasse district management's educational project. The library will remain partially closed during the renovation work from September 22nd to October 31st, 2025, but various services and events will continue to be offered.

During the closing time, selected media such as daily newspapers and bestsellers remain accessible in the library foyer. There will also be a book bus in front of the library offering picture books and Tonie characters for younger readers. The event program also remains active and includes, among other things, a gaming lounge and events in the historic Puttensaal. A concert by the songwriter Stephan Krawczyk is planned for October 1, 2025.

Diverse events and offers

Special highlights of the upcoming events are the reading with Mandy Mangler for Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October 16, 2025 and a silent film evening with the classic “The Third Man”, which will be accompanied live by Richard Siedhoff on the piano. Younger visitors are also catered for: the children's area offers homework help, picture book cinema and Mal' Mal Wednesday (Wednesday) with the artist Kristina Heldmann. Another exciting offer is “LEGO® Build the Change” and the use of reading dog Eddie for an animal adventure.

The library's reopening on November 1, 2025, the 30th anniversary of its opening, will be celebrated with a live comic concert by pianist Itay Dvori. All events during this time are free and invite the public to attend. The library at Luisenbad is not only a place for reading, but also for meeting and exchanging ideas, which is underpinned by the wide range of media offerings and regular events.

A place for meeting and exchange

Like the website seniorennetz.berlin emphasizes, the library offers an extensive range of media on health and dementia, with a selection of crime novels, travel guides and advice. The leafy reading garden and the regular events, such as the “Music Salon Luise” series and the “Süß & Salzig” film evenings, invite you to linger in the library.

In Berlin, the focus is on libraries as the most visited cultural and educational institutions. According to that kultur.berlin.de The technological and social conditions have changed significantly, which requires the continuous development of libraries. In 2018, a participatory process was initiated to develop a current development concept. Libraries today should be places of creative experience and encounters that do justice to the wishes of urban society.
