The focus: results of the district forum for land use
a spectacular exchange about the future of our cities!
On November 8, 2024, the district office Mitte opened its doors for the brilliant district forum, which took place in the venerable halls of the town hall. Initiatives, representatives and district councilors from the district flocked to the BVV hall to pull together when it comes to the common good-oriented use of areas. The district councilor for urban development and facility management, Ephraim Gothe, did not miss the opportunity to welcome the committed actors and to explain the principle of the event: The interaction of municipality and civil society for the design of public spaces!
This year the conversations were about a fascinating question: How can urban areas be better used and made accessible to everyone? With hands and hearts, the participants discussed innovative strategies and impressive examples that prove that cooperation between citizens' initiatives and urban planners is the key to more quality of life and civic participation.
common good through creative room concepts
The big topics of the evening were varied! A highlight was the exciting concept of the common good -oriented land use, which is anchored in the visionary idea of the co -productive city. Project examples such as the Kulturquartier Schauspielhaus in Erfurt and the Radbahn Berlin were presented as pioneering initiatives that have the potential to strengthen local democracy. Here it shows that if citizens and planners work hand in hand, big ones can arise!
And that wasn't all! Another fascinating point was the potential of empty shopping centers. These areas often regarded as a problem can get a new life through civic initiatives and public services. A prime example is the popular model project House of Statistics, which acts as a place of learning complex planning processes and thus actively integrates the citizens into the development of their city.
not enough! The Operation Himmelblick initiative impressively presented how roof areas can be used for cultural and neighborly purposes, for example on the busy "Leipziger Straße" and the modern "Cittipoint Wedding". Here it becomes clear that even unused heights can shine as new places of encounter!
networking and exchange
During the breather, the participants were able to network with a tasty snack and admire the exhibition of the district regions profiles. An exciting short film rounded off the experience and provided stimulating discussions about how citizen engagement could continue to shape our neighborhood in the future.
An exciting panel discussion that skillfully rounded off the evening made it possible for the audience to ask the speakers directly and to share their perspectives on the future of urban development.
