Successful exchange between German and Dutch authorities on refugee admission and youth care.
According to a press release dated October 19, 2023, around 60 civil servants from the municipality of Haarlemmermeer have made a study trip to Berlin in the Netherlands in order to exchange ideas with a German municipality. In particular, it was about the topics of "recording refugees" and "youth care". The municipality of Haarlemmermeer has 31 village centers with a total of 160,000 inhabitants and an important international business environment. Schiphol Airport is also in the community. The Dutch delegation was welcomed by the social welfare office and youth welfare office of the Mitte district office and received lectures and presentations about the procedures in Berlin. A lively exchange of experiences also took place.
The fact that civil servants of a Dutch community come to Berlin to exchange ideas with German colleagues shows the interest in the solutions and approaches of the German administration in the areas of refugees and youth care. Due to its geographical location and status as the capital, Berlin is an important hub for dealing with refugees and has gained a variety of experiences in this area. The exchange between the administrations can help to learn from each other and share proven practices.
A visit to the Dutch delegation in Berlin can also strengthen the sense of community in public administration and promote mutual understanding. The view outside the box and the exchange with other administrations can provide valuable impulses for your own ways of working. Such study trips can help to discover new ideas and approaches and to promote the dialogue between different cities and countries.
It is encouraging to see that state institutions are willing to learn from each other and to find dialogue to improve their own services for their citizens. Visiting the Dutch delegation in Berlin is an example of the importance of international exchange and cooperation between different administrations.
