Democracy Day in Berlin-Mitte: Strong workshops against right-wing slogans

active against extremism: events as part of the action month "Berlin makes democracy"

The Philipp-Schaeffer City Library in Berlin-Mitte became the Center for Education and Civil Society Engagement in September 2024. With the memory of the international day of democracy on September 15, the action month of "Berlin makes democracy" is heralded. This initiative aims to emphasize the commitment of Berliners for a strong and lively democracy.

Different workshops are offered as part of the month, which deal specifically with dealing with extreme rights and their dangerous ideologies. These offers are not only aimed at individual affected people, but also understand themselves as movements within the community that request solidarity.

A particularly outstanding event is the workshop "Become a regular table fighter". At a time when discriminatory slogans and right sayings in everyday life occur again and again, this workshop should give the participating strategies at hand in order not to remain silent at such moments. The workshop, which is carried out in partnership with "getting up against racism", ensures that participants learn to position themselves confidently and to represent alternative, solidary perspectives.

Another important workshop bears the title "Civil society under pressure: dealing with the extreme right" and will take place on September 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This workshop, organized by the Amadeu Antonio Foundation, highlights the mechanisms and narratives, promote anti -Semitic, anti -feminist and racist attitudes. The participants are supported in developing strategies in order to counteract such narratives in everyday life and to offer help for those affected.

Participation in both workshops is free of charge, but limited, which means that interested parties should register quickly to secure a place. These events not only represent an answer to right -wing agitation, but also promote active citizen participation and awareness of democratic values and their importance in social life.

Interested parties are invited to take part in these workshops in the Philipp-Schaeffer Library, Brunnenstraße 181 in Berlin-Mitte. The library is open from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For questions, the employees are available on the phone number (030) 9018 2 4444 or by email to schaeffer@stb-mitte.de.

conclusion:
These workshops are a step in the right direction for a society that is active against extremism and for a democratic future. The action month "Berlin Makes Democracy" is not only a remarkable initiative, but also a call to all citizens to further promote commitment to respectful coexistence.
