Fighting anti -Semitism: New opening of the exhibition showcase in front of the Tiergarten town hall

The district mayor of Mitte, Stefanie Remlinger, informs about the redesign of the exhibition showcase in front of the Tiergarten town hall. From January 26, 2024, statements from politics, society and religious communities will be presented here by the end of February 2024, which are decisively positioned against anti -Semitism and for social and interreligious cohesion.

The exhibition showcase was the goal of an arson attack at the end of November last year, in which an exhibition on Jewish doctors in the Moabit hospital was destroyed in the National Socialism period. Previously, there had already been an anti -Semitic attacks at the Tiergarten town hall, in which Israeli flags were stolen and flagpoles were damaged.

District Mayor Stefanie Remlinger was shaken by the attacks and emphasized that violence, anti -Semitism and history in our democracy have no place. She thanked the association "You were neighbors" for her voluntary commitment and announced that the statements in the exhibition represent a small excerpt from many statements that have been received against the attacks. Among other things, statements by Iman Andrea Reimann, Prof. Dr. Samuel Salzborn and students of the AG are reminiscent of the Theodor Heuss Community School.

It is important that the exhibition sets an example against anti -Semitism. History teaches us how dangerous and destructive hatred and exclusion can be. Especially in times when anti -Semitism and hate crimes are increasing again, it is of great importance that diverse parts of society are committed to solidarity and cohesion. The exhibition offers an opportunity to illustrate this and to draw attention to the importance of respectful coexistence and the protection of the culture of remembrance.

dealing with history and victims of National Socialism is also of great importance for the local community. The processing and memory of the dark times of the past is an important step towards understanding and preserving democracy and human rights.
