Participating: Your voice about the new retail concept in Treptow-Köpenick
The district administration of Treptow-Köpenick has taken an important step into the future of retail. After important analyzes have been carried out in recent weeks, the draft is now available for updating the center and retail concept (ZEHK). From September 9th to October 4th, 2024, citizens can find out about the details of the design and actively take part in the discussion.
As part of the analysis, various key figures were determined that give a deeper insight into the development perspectives of retail. From this, strategies were developed in order to control future retail settlements and to take into account the needs of the population. This process is supported by numerous bodies, which are made up of representatives of specialist offices, the Senate Administration, as well as political and economic actors.
The challenges of retail
The update of the Zehk is not only a reaction to the needs of the population, but also to the changed framework conditions in retail. An increasing demand results from dynamic population growth in Treptow-Köpenick. At the same time, inpatient retail is faced with major challenges: structural change and increasing shift in purchasing power towards online trading, urban centers are presenting the task of ensuring their future viability.
These developments should not be underestimated, because the way in which people make their purchases is changing rapidly. As a result, existing concepts that are designed for the needs of classic retail are often no longer up to date. With the update of the Zehk, the district office has created a fundamental guide that is supposed to make retail in Treptow-Köpenick future-proof.

The integration of public authorities and other relevant institutions also runs in parallel to digital citizen participation. The goal is clear: After the evaluation of the proposals and information, a final version of the concept will be created by the end of 2024. This is then decided by the responsible district bodies in order to create a binding basis for the further development of retail in the district.
