Ed Sillms, the former keyboardist and co-founder of the East Berlin rock band Karat, died at the age of 76. The management of the band announced this sad news on the band's Facebook page.
According to an employee of the management, the musician died on June 27th. His funeral took place on Monday in the closest family. The exact cause of death is not known to management.
Ulrich "Ed" Svillms was born in East Berlin in 1947 and was one of the co-founders of Karat in 1975. As a composer, he wrote numerous songs, including classics such as "You have to go about seven bridges" and "King of the World".
1987 Silms left the band Karat, but remained connected to her afterwards, as the management announced. "Our thoughts are family and friends. And even if it is only a weak consolation for his relatives, his songs live in us for and on."
Ed Sillms leaves a musical heritage that will continue to touch people even after his death. His contribution to East German rock music will not be forgotten.
