Michael Tsokos in an interview: forensic medicine, corona policy and new ways
Michael Tsokos, a prominent forensic doctor in Germany, ended his management of forensic medicine at the Berlin Charité in 2023. In an interview with the Berliner Zeitung, Tsokos spoke about his decision to leave the university. He expressed concerns that the Charité had become too political and that the trends of the zeitgeist follow too much, which in his opinion was not compatible with independent university medicine. Tsokos also emphasized the deterioration of the lecturer-student relationship, especially during the time of Corona pandemic, and complained about the neglect of student training in the field of forensic medicine.
In relation to the improvements in its field in recent years, Tsokos has led the increasing importance of hair analysis to determine, for example, drug use patterns. He also mentioned the use of computer tomographic studies in autopsy as standard procedures, for example to identify victims of terrorist attacks. Despite his many years of work as a forensic doctor and a large number of sections carried out, Tsokos remembered an unusual case: two corpses with emerging faces that were an unusual appearance.
also discussed Tsokos the importance of precise corpse shows and how inadequate examinations can be a risk, since many non -natural deaths in Germany may be overlooked. He criticized the lack of adequate training of doctors in this area and advocated using highly qualified personnel for corpses in order to reduce the number of undiscovered killing offenses.
