More help for men: Survey reveals a lack of advisory services

scandalous grievances: men as a silent victim of stalking and violence! shock new survey results! While the majority of Germans show a shocking imbalance in the support of men affected by violence, the creators of “full screen” start a gripping research on the dramatic reality. On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, the documentary "Men as victim? Helpless with stalking and violence" will be published in the ARD Mediathek. This explosive documentary reveals that our society neglects men in the fight against stalking and violence!

The current survey of the renowned opinion research institute Infratest Dimap, which was carried out on behalf of the SWR, reveals that 72 percent of Germans believe that the topic of stalking and domestic violence against men is a socially underestimated problem. The demand for more information and aid offers is made according to - 75 percent of the respondents demand that something needs to be done here urgently!

shocking statistics: Aid offers for men are missing

The numbers are terrifying! In Germany there are currently only twelve men's protection apartments that only provide 43 places in total! Even though the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs itself admits on request that there is a lack of sufficient support offers. The planned violent assistance law, which is equipped with a lean three million euros, is criticized by experts as completely inadequate. Asha Hedayati, a well -known lawyer for family law, sums it up: "Three million are nothing, that's absurd!"

Particularly alarming: Every year the help telephone "Violence on Men" reports an increase in inquiries. Thousands of men turn to this support site because they are controlled, threatened or even physically injured in their relationships. Many report frightening experiences that leave them traumatized. But the offers of help are inadequate, and often men who are looking for help are denied access.

The truth about male victims

Although men are usually considered the perpetrators in stalking and violence, the data show a different reality: almost 20 percent of the victims of relationship violence are men. This means that every fifth person affected is male! The figures of the Federal Criminal Police Office show that almost 170,000 cases of relationship power were recorded last year. These findings question our view of violence and gender roles!

But a big problem remains: Many men shy away from seeing themselves as a victim. Psychologist Björn Süfke aptly explains: "To define himself as a victim is like a cut into your own masculinity." Men are often not ready to seek help, which leads to a dangerous taboo.

The documentary "full screen" will be available on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 5 a.m. in the ARD media library and reveals the dark side of the male victims of violence. This gripping research will encourage the audience to think and hopefully initiate the necessary change in society!
