Medical technology on the abyss: BVMed demands courageous political measures

alarm mood in medical technology! Germany's most important location for medical technology is going on! With over 250,000 jobs - more than twice as many as in the pharmaceutical industry - the industry is on the abyss. The latest figures from the Federal Association of Medical Technology (BVMed) speak a clear language: A horrend decline in sales growth is forecast for 2024 - only 1.2 percent! In the previous year it was 4.8 percent! The glimmer of hope shrinks!

In the Medtech world, everything revolves around life-saving products: from plasters to pacemakers to high-tech devices such as computer tomograph. The BVMed represents over 300 members from this strong sector - but the dark side can no longer be ignored!

pressing costs and overwhelming bureaucracy

A main reason for the alarming development? The increased costs! High energy prices and a bureaucratic labyrinth make life difficult for companies. These additional loads press the profits and paralyze the joy of investing! Shocking 30 percent of companies surveyed plan to reduce their investments in the coming year. Even more worrying: Half of these companies are drawn abroad, especially to the USA and other EU countries! Where's the urge to innovate? The BVMed innovation climate index shows only a deep case.

Mark Jalaß, the CEO of BVMed, warns urgently and calls for its own medtech strategy from the Federal Government! "The commitment announced in the coalition agreement to strengthen the Medtech location Germany must finally take action!" Said Jalass. It is high time that politics wakes up and our medical technology does not let up!

Five measures for a successful future

To stop the sinking, Jalaß called five elementary points that urgently need to be implemented. The Federal Government has to emphasize with emphasis on improvements in the EU Medical Products Ordinance within the first 100 days of the new term. Medical technology innovations finally need clear deadlines in their evaluation procedures! In addition, a digital inventory of critical medical devices should be introduced to ensure the resilience of our health system!

In addition, the hospital reform should include modern medical technology and the over 10,000 highly qualified nurses who work for aid companies should definitely integrate better! These changes are not only necessary, they are a bid of the hour!

Jalass sums it up: "To keep the best talents in the country and develop innovations here, we need location -friendly framework conditions! The time for the dialogue between politics and business is now!" The future of medical technology is on the brink - it is only to be hoped that those responsible will take it seriously!
