Siemens-Schuckert: The history of the rotating airship hall in Biesdorf
On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, from 6:00 p.m., an event will take place in the Heino Schmieden Hall of the Biesdorf Castle, which deals with the airships from the Siemens-Schuckert company and the rotating airship hall in Biesdorf. Wilhelm von Siemens, owner of Biesdorf Castle from 1889 to 1919, began in 1906 in the Siemens-Schuckert works with work on his own airship. The rotating airship hall, which was built on its property in Biesdorf in 1909, was a world sensation at that time. In the hall, the Siemens-Schuckert airships were built and tested, which were the fastest airships between 1911 and 1912.
Wolfgang Schneider from the historical friends Karlshorst will report during the event about the construction and use of the Friedrichsfelde-Karlshorst airfield. The event begins at 6:00 p.m. (admission from 5:30 p.m.) and lasts about 1.5 hours. Entry is four euros and a pre -registration is requested.
The history of the airships and the rotating airship hall in Biesdorf is closely linked to the development of aviation in Germany. The Siemens-Schuckert airships were technologically progressive at their time and played an important role in aviation history.
The event is organized by the "Freunde of Biesdorf Castle" in cooperation with the VHS Marzahn-Hellersdorf. Such events keep local history and culture alive and made accessible to a wider audience.
