Am Montag, dem 17. Juni 2024, wurde der Modulare Ergänzungsbau Geistige Entwicklung (GE MEB) für die Schule am Pappelhof in Berlin feierlich eröffnet. Der Ergänzungsbau beherbergt das Ober- und Abschluss-Stufenzentrum (OASZ) der Schule am Pappelhof und befindet sich auf dem Gelände der Wilhelm-Busch-Grundschule im Bezirk Marzahn-Hellersdorf. Die Eröffnung wurde von Senatorin Katharina Günther-Wünsch, Frau Keinemann von der Senatsverwaltung für Stadtentwicklung, Bauen und Wohnen und Bezirksstadtrat Stefan Bley durchgeführt. The supplementary construction houses the head and final level center (OASZ) of the school on Pappelhof and is located on the site of the Wilhelm Busch primary school in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district. The opening was carried out by Senator Katharina Günther-Wünsch, Ms. Keinemann by the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing and District City Councilor Stefan Bley.

Senator Günther-Wünsch emphasized the importance of supplementary construction for relieving the school system in Berlin. The individual equipment of the mebs was specifically adapted to the school's needs in order to implement a future -oriented educational concept. District Councilor Stefan Bley praised the specialization options of the extension and emphasized the new cooperation opportunities with the Wilhelm-Busch primary school.

The 3-storey supplementary construction offers space for 96 students, of which at least three students in need of wheelchairs can be accommodated in each classroom. The building has 12 general classrooms, 8 division rooms, a cafeteria, an output kitchen, teacher bases and other specialized rooms for various activities and subjects.

The total costs for the construction project amount to around 8.2 million euros. The construction started on July 14, 2022 and was completed on September 14, 2023. The school at the Pappelhof offers a variety of activities and events that enrich school life and support the students in their individual development.

In the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district, further school construction measures have recently been completed, including the construction of modular supplementary buildings at various schools as well as modernization and conversion projects at existing schools. The school at the Pappelhof is an example of the continuous efforts to improve the school environment and the educational offers in Berlin.
