Innovative music education in Berlin: The block box of the Hans-Werner-Henze Music School
On 17. September 2024 at 10:00 a.m. the Hans-Werner-Henze Music School in Berlin-Marzahn will celebrate an important event. In a public try out in the concert hall, Maratstr. 182, present the newly developed mobile studio, known as a block box. This project is the result of a one -year development process that aims to make music lessons more flexible and more accessible.
The block box is a state -of -the -art music studio that is housed in portable flight cases. This innovative approach enables the school to create mobile music offers that are useful not only for their own students, but also for numerous cooperation partners. This includes institutions such as the ISS Caspar-David-Friedrich and the Barnim high school. Through the close cooperation with these partners, the music school was able to develop and test new workshop concepts that, among other things, focus on popular music.
What makes the block box special are the over 200 children and adolescents who have been actively integrated into the development process. At workshops, the participants had the opportunity to draw, construct and create music themselves. This creative integration not only led to the emergence of new pieces of music, but also strengthened the commitment and enthusiasm of young people for music. In the song of the project homepage www.blockbox.info the resulting songs can be heard.
The blockbox is not only an example of modern music education, but also a sustainable concept that reacts to the challenges of music lessons. Equipped with electric guitars, synthesizers, drums and professional recording equipment, it enables spontaneous recording sessions or schoolyard concerts without much logistical effort. In this way, lack of space and teaching is actively addressed in the music school area.
The project is supported by the funding program "Culture and Libraries in the district-Kubist", financed by the funds of the European Fund for Regional Development (ERDRE) and the State of Berlin and the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district. This underlines the importance of such innovative educational projects for cultural funding at the local level.
The block box not only expands access to music formation, but also strengthened the local community. The commitment of the music school and its partners shows how education in connection with creativity and teamwork can achieve great results. This project could serve as a model for similar initiatives in other districts and pave the way for a future -oriented music mediation.
