Inhibitions and fates: reopening of the exhibitions in Biesdorf Castle
On Sunday, May 26, 2024, at 6:00 p.m., two new exhibitions will be opened in Biesdorf Castle: "Inhibitions are the wrong form of resistance - class A.R. Penck" and "The Castle, in which fate crosses - Anna Borgman and Morten Stræde", with a common vernissage. The exhibitions will be open until September 1, 2024.
The exhibition on the upper floor of the castle presents works by A.R. Penck and almost 100 works of various art genres of 53 of his former students, who studied with him between 1989 and 2005 at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. A.R. Penck was known for his resistance to the GDR system and its persistence in relation to the independence and authenticity of his art. Despite monitoring and repression, he managed to spread his work beyond the borders of the GDR. The exhibition emphasizes works that illustrate the resistance to conventions and the striving for individual expression.
On the ground floor of the castle, Anna Borgman and Morten Stræde present the exhibition “The Castle, in it crosses fate”, which lives the idea of a mythological castle, populated with goddesses and mythical creatures. Inspired by the novel by Italo Calvino, the exhibition plays with structures and contexts that are created by a tarot card game. The works of Morten Stræde and Anna Borgman mix historical references with contemporary elements and tell stories of human existence in a variety of facets.
The exhibitions offer visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in different artistic worlds and to gain new perspectives on art. For more information on the exhibitions, events and art education offers in Biesdorf Castle, you can visit the website of the castle.
