Cultural variety in Marzahn-Hellersdorf: A look at the Koto workshop
The examination of foreign cultures has become more important in recent years, and events that give an insight into traditional art forms are more in demand than ever. A remarkable example of this can be found on 21. September 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the art library of the district central library “Mark Twain” in Berlin. The Volkshochschule Marzahn-Hellersdorf offers the opportunity to learn more about Japanese music and especially the Koto, a charming string instrument with 13 strings.
This event is under the direction of Ms. Ritsuko Takeyama, an expert in traditional Japanese music. Ms. Takeyama will not only explain the roots and the cultural meaning of the Koto, but also stimulate the participants with interactive elements to experience the sounds of this instrument.
The subsequent workshop offers those present the opportunity to become active themselves. Interested parties can try the Koto here and get to know the playing technique. Such practical experiences are crucial to develop a deeper understanding of the music and culture of Japan.
Participation in this inspiring event is free of charge, but prior registration is recommended because the number of places is limited. Interested parties can register via the VHS course portal or directly in the library with the course number MH4.10-900-H. For further questions, the service office of the Volkshochschule Marzahn-Hellersdorf is available by email or by phone.
This workshop is not only an opportunity to learn more about the art of Koto game technology, but also an example of the commitment of the adult education center, to promote cultural diversity and to strengthen understanding between cultures. The events of the adult education center are a window in the world of different traditions and contribute to a rich community culture.
In order to give you the best possible access to such a wide variety of events, we all encourage everyone to participate in these cultural dialogues and to experience the fascination for the Japanese tradition up close.
