Focus on Bruckner's symphonies: Lecture with Gerhard Forck on June 20th

Focus on Bruckner's symphonies: Lecture with Gerhard Forck on June 20th

On Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 6:00 p.m., a lecture with Gerhard Forck will take place in the district central library "Mark Twain" Artothek, Marzahner Promenade 55, 12679 Berlin. The topic of the lecture is the famous Austrian composer Anton Bruckner, whose 200th birthday is celebrated this year. Bruckner is one of the most important symphonists of the 19th century today, but was controversial during his lifetime. His compositions, especially his symphonies, did not meet the listener expectations of his time and were therefore only slowly accepted.

An interesting aspect of Bruckner's work is the complexity of his compositions. For example, there are three different versions of his fourth symphony, since Bruckner continuously worked on his works and developed them further. The comparison of these different approaches offers a fascinating insight into the composer.

The ninth symphony of Bruckner, on which he worked until his death, is particularly exciting. Although the final remained unfinished, there is today a performance version based on existing materials. This performance version of the final allows the audience to get an insight into the possible completion of Bruckner's last work.

Gerhard Forck, who will moderate the lecture in the district central library, worked for the Berlin Philharmonic from 2002 to 2020 and therefore has extensive expertise in the field of classical music and composers.

Interested parties can register by phone at (030) 54704142 or by email for the event. Admission is free, but a donation is requested to co-finance the event for a donation to the Marzahn-Hellersdorf Stadtbibliothek. Photos and/or videos of the event could be published on the library's website or on social media.

An event like this offers a unique opportunity to get to know and appreciate the music and the life of an outstanding composer like Anton Bruckner better. Dealing with classical music and its cultural heritage is an enrichment for everyone and interested parties.
