Tree sponsorship project in Marzahn-Hellersdorf: Citizens wanted!

Am 1. Juli startet das Umwelt- und Naturschutzamt in Marzahn-Hellersdorf die Aktion „Baum sucht ein Zuhause“. Im Rahmen dieses Baum-Patenschaftsprojektes können interessierte Bürgerinnen und Bürger aus 14 verschiedenen Baumarten einen oder mehrere passende Bäume auswählen, um ihnen ein neues Zuhause im heimischen Garten zu geben. Das Umwelt- und Naturschutzamt übernimmt die Kosten für das Einpflanzen durch eine Garten- und Landschaftsbau-Firma, während die neuen Baumpaten sich verpflichten, die Bäume lebenslang zu pflegen. As part of this tree sponsorship project, interested citizens can choose one or more suitable trees from 14 different tree species to give you a new home in the home garden. The environmental and nature protection office assumes the costs for planting through a garden and landscaping company, while the new tree sponsors are committed to maintaining the trees for life.

District Mayor Nadja Zivkovic was able to establish the project in the district, inspired by similar actions in neighboring districts such as Treptow-Köpenick. The goal of the campaign is to increase the tree population in the district in order to improve the microclimate in the long term. Especially in the summer months, trees have a positive effect on the climate because they donate shadows and lead to lower temperatures due to evaporation. In addition, trees offer different animal species valuable habitats and food and values gardens optically.

interested citizens can apply for a tree if they have a private property. This also includes apartment owner communities as well as housing associations and cooperatives. The campaign is only valid for Marzahn-Hellersdorf and the environmental and nature conservation office awards a total of 30 trees. The legal process is excluded.

The "Baum is looking for a home" campaign should not only be brought to new trees into the district, but also raise awareness of environmental and nature conservation. Citizens have the opportunity to actively contribute to the greener cityscape and at the same time maintain and promote ecological habitats.
