Air measurements in the Köpenick Museum: No danger for employees and visitors

The preliminary report on the air measurements in the Köpenick Museum gives the all -clear: there is no danger for employees and visitors. The museum at Alter Markt 1 will be accessible to the audience from August 1st.

The suspicion of a health -threatening pollution as a result of previous construction measures has not been confirmed. As a precaution, the museum was closed to protect officials and visitors. The reports of the joint state laboratory Berlin-Brandenburg were waited to make concrete statements about the risk situation.

District City Councilor Marco Braumann (CDU) is relieved by the result of the investigations. He emphasizes that the precaution of the temporary closure was correct. People's security came first.

The problem began in September, when documents were found in the archive of the museum on which the note "radioactive radiation" was found. However, a review of the Office for Radiation Protection showed that the papers were not burdened. With another exhibit in the basement of the building, however, the Geiger meter followed. The affected exhibit was disposed of properly.

The district office then had the entire building examined for health aspects for the employees. Among other things, mold was found on historical maps and exhibits affected by the woodenworm in the basement depot. The safety of the employees was still in the foreground, which is why they were temporarily accommodated in the Treptow Museum.

The Köpenick Museum can now open its doors again after the examinations and the removal of the health risks. From August 1st, all interested parties have the opportunity to visit the exhibitions.
