Till Schwabenbauer receives Berlin music school prize for outstanding commitment

On July 7, 2024, Till Schwabenbauer, lecturer and teacher at the Schostakovich Music School in Berlin-Lichtenberg, was awarded the Berlin Music School Prize. This honor has been awarded by the alliance to promote public Berlin Musikschulen e.V. every year to music school teachers who have been particularly committed.

The award ceremony took place as part of the day of the Berlin music schools in the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden. Chris Berghäuser, chairman of the Berlin Music School alliance, and Friedrich-Koh Dolge, Federal Chairman of the Association of German Music Schools, presented the award to Till Schwabenbauer.

District Mayor Martin Schaefer (CDU) praised Schwabenbauer's work at the Schostakovich Music School, in which he has been working as an orchestra since 2008. Schwabenbauer has expanded the former youth string orchestra into a successful symphony orchestra and leads it with a lot of empathy and commitment.

The criteria for the allocation of the Berlin Music School Prize include special achievements in ensemble work, excellent results of the supervised pupils in the “Youth Music” competition or in the preparatory training as well as extraordinary commitment to special pedagogical concepts.

Schwabenbauer's approach to multimodal sensors is particularly impressive, an artistic method that enables the reception of music over several senses at the same time. Due to the differentiated use of smell, pictures, space, colors, language, shape and sign, Schwabenbauer improves the concert experience of his listeners sustainably, whereby the music is always the focus.

Till Schwabenbauer has been passionate about music since he was four years old, mastered several instruments masterfully and has successfully managed orchestra in Berlin for many years. His extraordinary commitment and innovative educational approaches make him a worthy award winner of the Berlin Music School Prize.
