Am Römerweg 39 in 10318 Berlin-Karlshort is expected to be created in the second quarter of 2026 a new upper school location. On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, construction was handed over to the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Living so that it can start with school construction. An integrated secondary school (ISS) with a total of 725 new school places is planned on the site between the University of Technology and Economy (HTW), the railway tracks, the allotment garden "Good Hope" and the Coppi-Gymnasium. A sports hall with three indoor parts will complement the school location. As usual with new construction projects in the school sector, the location is accessed barrier -free.
District City Councilor Filiz Keküllüoğlu (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) was pleased with the new school building in Lichtenberg. With the new school location, especially in southern Lichtenberg and Karlshorst, school places in the upper school area are to be secured close to home in order to meet the increasing demand through the rapid growth of the district. The HTW, the Coppi-Gymnasium as well as a primary school and daycare centers are nearby; With the ISS, an important educational landscape in the south of Lichtenberg could be created here. She also emphasized the good cooperation between the Senate and the district and thanked everyone involved for their commitment.
The future school premises comprises approximately 17,000 m² of fallow land with old stocks of economic facilities that are still still to be cleared. The construction site facility is currently starting with preparatory measures. The proven wooden module construction comes to the execution as a comfort school (HOCOMP ISS Römerweg). The 11G34 Orankese School at Konrad-Wolf-Straße 11 in Alt-Hohenschönhausen in 2019 and the 11G35 primary school on Tränzegraben at Sewanstraße 41 in Friedrichsfelde were realized in 2019. The client is the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Living in cooperation with the School and Sports Office in Lichtenberg with the participation of the district specialist offices.
