On Thursday, March 7, 2024, the Fennpfuhlpark in Lichtenberg was enriched with a new attraction: a bird and brood island in the lake. This is intended to serve various water birds as a retreat to nest and breed in the park. The idea for the island came up as part of a fundraising campaign that was launched by the pharmacies in the Fennpfuhl.
The fundraising campaign was launched by Rainer Bosse, former district prescribed in Lichtenberg and today's chairman of the Fennpfuhl citizens' association, together with Anke Rüdinger, owner of the Castello Apotheke, and the Lichtenberg street and green area office. The aim was to contribute to the protection of nature and to promote the animal world in the park. The support of the other pharmacies in the Fennpfuhl contributed significantly to the success of the campaign.
District City Councilor Filiz Küllüoğlu from Bündnis 90/Die Grünen praised the civic engagement in the Fennpfuhlpark and thanked all donors for her contributions. Mr. Bosse and Ms. Rüdinger received special recognition for their initiative as well as the street and green space office for the implementation of the project.
A total of € 4,406.45 came together during the two -year fundraising campaign, of which € 4,130.49 are now used for the bird island. The island will have an area of 9m² and anchored in the lake. It is planted with different plants that offer birds food and protection, including blood pasture, segregation, rushes, reeds, pipe pistons and swamp sword lily.
The pharmacies involved are the Koala-Apotheke, Pegasus-Apotheke, Möllendorff-Apotheke, pharmacy on Anton-Saefkow-Platz, pharmacy at the Fennpfuhl, Rosen-Apotheke and Castello-Apotheke.
A table with information about the pharmacies involved, the donations collected and the plants used could give further insights into the project and illustrate local cohesion and commitment to nature conservation in the Fennpfuhlpark.
