Museum Lichtenberg: Remember in Lichtenberg - event program
The Lichtenberg Museum invites you to the exhibition "Remembering in Lichtenberg" with its accompanying program. This exhibition enables visitors to help shape the history of the district in open formats. The offer includes various formats such as guided tours, workshops, readings, lectures and discussions. All events are accessible free of charge and take place in the Lichtenberg Museum in Berlin.
District Mayor Martin Schaefer (CDU) emphasizes the importance of the museum as the place of open dialogue and the encounter. He emphasizes that the museum makes history and culture of remembrance tangible. Especially in the 35th year of the peaceful revolution, it was important to remember the self -empowerment of the citizens during the uprising in the GDR.
Some of the upcoming events as part of the exhibition are already planned. On March 27, 2024, a lecture with the title "Enough spotted, get out now! The end of the Stasi" with Peter Wensierski. This lecture illuminates the exemption from the fear of SED secret service during the peaceful revolution and shows how committed citizens ended repression by the Ministry of State Security.
On April 11, 2024, a panel discussion with the topic of “counterculture, peace work and Christians in the Redeemer Church - self -assertion in the shadow of the Stasi center” is planned. Various perspectives are discussed by former members of the church, which were in a complex tension between their own interests and the state policy of the GDR
Furthermore, on April 1, 2024, a contemporary witness discussion with Ibraimo Alberto and Antonio da Silva will take place. The two men will talk about how they came to Berlin in the 1980s as a contract worker from Mozambique and worked in companies from the GDR. This event offers a personal insight into the experiences of contract workers during the GDR period.
The exhibition "Remembering in Lichtenberg" runs until November 10, 2024 and is open on Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A visit is worthwhile for everyone who is interested in the history of the district and the events of the GDR.
