Judaism and queerness: two events in October in the Lichtenberg district

The link between Judaism and Queenness: An important cultural event in Berlin

In October 2024 there are two remarkable events in the Lichtenberg district on the agenda that deal with the connection between Judaism and Queenness. These initiatives set an example against anti -Semitism and promote understanding of the LGBTQ+ community. In view of the tense social debates since the tragic terrorist attacks on October 7, 2023, it is very important to conduct such dialogues.

On 5. October at 3 p.m. the first of the two events take place in the Jewish Museum Berlin. The thematic leadership entitled "Sex. Jewish Positions" leads the participants through a special exhibition that illuminates the diversity of the Jewish attitudes towards sexuality over the centuries. This performance is aimed at all interested parties and offers insights into historical and cultural perspectives.

A week later, on 14. October at 6 p.m. , the community meets again in Café Maggie for the second event. Under the title "Queenness and Judaism", the queer Jewish life is dealt with and important discussions about the challenges that queer jews face. In cooperation with the organization "Keshet Germany", it is discussed how homosexuality and queerness are treated in Judaism.

A central aspect of these events is the exchange about the social changes and the need to confront anti -Semitism and hostility to queer. Such dialogues are necessary to beat bridges between different communities and to promote respectful coexistence.

Entry to both events is free of charge, which should promote accessibility and participation. The events are part of the action weeks against anti -Semitism, which are supplemented by an extensive program, which also includes film evenings, workshops and other guided tours.

For registration as smooth as possible, registration is requested: for the event on 5. October until September 30th at sabine.poehl@lichtenberg.berlin.de and for the event on 14. October until October 11th at info@leslefam.de .
