The withdrawal of the Soviet (from 1991 Russian) troops in the summer of 1994 marked the end of an era that had shaped the history of Berlin for 49 years. The stationing of the troops in Berlin-Lichtenberg was an important part of the post-war period, which also shaped the division of Germany and the confrontation in the Cold War. The troops in 1994 was a historic milestone that symbolized the end of the bipolar world order after the Cold War.

The exhibition in the Lichtenberg Museum and in the Museum Berlin-Karlshorst illuminates the events, circumstances and consequences of the farewell of the Russian troops from Berlin 30 years ago. Through photographs, objects, media reports and contemporary texts, the life of the soldiers of the Berlin Brigade during their last commemorative and farewell celebrations, their return to Russia and their traces in Karlshorst and the Wuhlheide are depicted.

The accompanying program for the exhibition includes events such as lectures, panel discussions and district tours that offer further insights into the history of the Russian troop deduction. Among other things, on July 23, 2024 in the Museum Berlin-Karlshorst, a panel discussion on the topic "From the hope of eternal peace with Russia. The Russian troop deduction 1990–1994" take place.

The exhibition and the accompanying program offer a unique opportunity to reflect the history of the withdrawal of the Russian troops from Berlin and to appreciate the importance of this event for European politics after the Cold War. The exhibition also serves to alive the memory of an important period of German history and to emphasize the historical importance of the withdrawal of the Russian troops.
