On May 16, 2024, the Lichtenberg district office will, together with various partners, whiten the Progress Pride flag in front of the Lichtenberg town hall in order to set a sign of tolerance and against discrimination. This is done on the occasion of the international day against homo-, bi-, inter- and trans*hostility (idahobit). The day also marks the historical event when homosexuality was officially no longer classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1990.

The event will start at 1 p.m., followed by the annual balloon campaign "Kiss Kiss Berlin" of the anti-violence project Mano at 3 p.m. on the forecourt of the Wartenberg train station. On May 17, 2024, the actual Idahobit Day, further promotions will take place in Lichtenberg, including the rainbow flag at the Sana Clinic at 9:30 a.m., a flag café with a rainbow café in the neighborhood house at 11:00 a.m. and a meeting with a small reception at the Leslefam association from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The events should show solidarity with the LGBTQ community, especially in view of the fact that LSBTIQ*people are still pursued in many countries and are even threatened with the death penalty in some countries. The rainbow flag not only symbolizes diversity and acceptance, but also the fight against prejudices and violence.

It is important to support such initiatives to strengthen communities and contribute to a respectful and inclusive environment. The citing of the Pride flags is not just a symbolic gesture, but an important step to draw attention to the rights and needs of LGBTQ personnel and to increase their visibility. Participation in such events can help to raise awareness of the ongoing challenges and struggles of the LGBTQ community and to show solidarity.
