Citizens ask, district councilor answers: Environmental consultation hours in Lichtenberg!

District Councilor Filiz Keküllüoğlu announces that an open consultation hour will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. This offers citizens the opportunity to speak to her directly about various topics. The event starts at 3:00 p.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. It takes place on the forecourt of the Anton Saefkow Library in Lichtenberg. In addition to the consultation hours, there will also be a mobile environmental office on site, which can be reached from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Mobile Environmental Office addresses important environmental, nature and sustainability issues that affect the district. This corresponds to the goal of actively involving citizens in the discussion about local environmental concerns. Education for Sustainable Development

The consultation hour is part of a broader initiative that has been pursued in Berlin for many years. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is a key approach to achieving the global sustainability goals, which are becoming increasingly urgent. These educational approaches aim to empower people of all ages to develop sustainable lifestyles and take responsibility. The National Action Plan highlights ESD as a key strategy to strengthen knowledge, attitudes and attitudes necessary for dealing with nature and the environment.

Historically, many projects of the Berlin environmental administration were launched under the term environmental education in the 1990s. These initiatives aim to promote awareness of shared responsibility towards nature, fellow human beings, future generations and the planet. In order to give these approaches even stronger coordination, district coordination offices for education on nature, environment, climate and sustainability have been established in recent years, as reported by berlin.de.

The Education Master Plan for Sustainable Development is currently being developed in Berlin on a participatory basis. In all of these efforts, the focus is on promoting environmental awareness and sustainable thinking - aspects that can also be discussed in the upcoming consultation hours.
