Berlin burns again! Suspected arson at the Cemex location

In the night of December 2, 2024, there were again massive fires in Berlin, which focused on the industrial areas of Lichtenberg and Marzahn-Hellersdorf. At 3 a.m., the first emergency calls were received, which reported high flames and thick smoke over the grounds of a concrete manufacturer, Cemex. According to reports from Welt , the fire brigade had to mobilize over 100 emergency services, to extinguish the fires. In Marzahn, nine trucks were burned at the Pyramidenring and in Lichtenberg, seven more were added to Gehrenseestrasse.

The circumstances indicate arson, and the police did not rule out that political motivation was behind the attacks. One spokesman for the police confirmed that the events of the incident of December 2023 are reminiscent of when another Cemex location in Kreuzberg laid a big fire, to which a radical left-wing group confessed. This was the reason for the attack the controversial effects of concrete production on the climate, which was again listed in the confession letter on the left platform IndyMedia, such as reported.

cause of the fire and investigation

At the moment, the exact cause of the fire is unclear, the investigation by the police state security is running. Although nobody was injured, the fire brigade found that the water supply was challenging during the operation, since several foci of fire had to be combated at the same time. The fire brigade worked for over two hours in both districts to control the flames. These incidents raise questions and indicate a pattern that could put far more complicated political and ecological motives into the background.
