On a coffee with Sandy Mattes: Important consultation in Lichtenberg!

A new format of citizen participation offers residents of the Lichtenberg district the opportunity to contact Sandy Mattes (SPD) directly with her district councilor for school and sport. The first office hours will take place on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Fennpfuhlpark. The innovative concept called "On a coffee with the district councilor" aims to offer interested citizens an open platform for questions and suggestions and thus to strengthen the relationships between the administration and the population.

No prior registration is necessary for the encounter. The citizens are invited to simply come by and present their concerns. If you have any questions, the Sandy Mattes office is available on the phone number (030) 902 96-80 01 or by email to petra.thomann@lichtenberg.berlin.de.

A look into the future

The next consultation hour after the opening date will take place on Thursday, June 12, 2025, also from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Anton-Saefkow-Platz, in the Fennpfuhl district. This format aims to promote citizen participation in Lichtenberg and to involve the opinions of the residents in the local political decisions.

like berlin.de , the districts are obliged to inform the citizens about planning and to include them in decision-making processes. Citizen participation can take place in various formats, such as round tables, citizens' meetings or online dialogues. These formats serve either the information, conflict resolution or the direct co -decision of those affected.

meaning of citizen participation

The advantages of active citizen participation are diverse: it enables better consideration of the needs of the citizens, contributes to avoiding bad planning and unnecessary expenses and ensures that different interests are adequately weighted. Ultimately, this leads to a higher acceptance of public institutions.

With the introduction of the new office hour format "For a coffee with the district councilor" Sandy Mattes shows how important the dialogue with the citizens is. To create a forum in which people can express their ideas and concerns directly not only promotes trust in politics, but also helps to tackle the challenges of local politics together.

Further information on current projects and participation options are available from the respective district offices in order to offer the citizens an active participation option in their district.

Interested parties are cordially invited to take part in the upcoming office hours and actively use their say. Remember to stop by on May 12th or June 12, 2025!
