Last generation in the European Parliament: opportunities and challenges
Last generation in the European Parliament: opportunities and challenges
The European Parliament currently consists of 705 MPs, including representatives of small parties and political associations. These groups are committed to regional interests, concentrate on certain topics or use the parliament as a platform for satire. Another group, the last generation, could soon make their way into parliament, since the hurdles at European level are lower than national. The last generation consists of activists who continue to remain active and want to influence politics in Europe. They emphasize that they consider democracy to be indispensable, even if their idea of it seems naive.
A seat in the EU Parliament could help the activists of the last generation to develop a better understanding of the complex political processes within the EU. You have to learn how difficult it is to effectively implement political use for climate protection. They will realize that political change often progresses slowly and can bring setbacks with them. To be heard, they have to go beyond mere symbolism like the attachment of stickers.
The recent generation of the last generation could also have an impact on the political landscape in Germany. Since the hurdles at European level are lower, more political groups from Germany could try to position themselves there and to represent their interests. This could lead to a greater variety of political voices and compete with the established parties.
The following table lists some information about the current parties in the European Parliament:
| Party | Number of deputies |
| ————- | ———————— |
| CDU | 28 |
| SPD | 16 |
| Alliance 90/The Greens | 21 |
| The left | 5 |
| The party | 1 |
| AfD | 11 |
It remains to be seen how successful the last generation will be in the upcoming EU elections and whether they can win a seat in the European Parliament. However, their activities and political commitment could make an important contribution to political discussion and promotion of democracy and climate protection. It will be exciting to observe how the political landscape will change in the coming years.
